Passports
Passport applications can be obtained at the Owyhee County Courthouse in Murphy. You can also print them from the U.S. Department of State Passport page.
Passport application processes can take between 4-6 weeks (currently, but this may change at any given moment) from the day an application is received by the Passport Agency.
The expedite service (for an additional $60) can take between 2-3 weeks from the day an application is received by the Passport Agency.
Passport Appointments
When you are ready to apply for your passport, you will need to call 1-208-495-2421 or 1-208-495-2806 to schedule an appointment. No walk-ins permissible. You need to bring with you the following:
- A completed passport application.
- One recently taken passport photo.
- An original birth certificate or naturalization papers. (These papers to be proper need to have a raised or purple seal and will need to be left with us, Passport will return your birth Certificate to you)
- A check or money order made payable to the U.S. Department of State
- 16 and older - $130.00
- Under 16 - $100.00
- Cash, check, money order or credit card (with an additional $3.00 fee) in the amount of $35.00 made payable to the Owyhee County Court.
- A Copy of your Drivers’ License front and back on the same page.
- Your driver’s license for verification purposes.
Passport Card
You can also apply for a Passport card. The fees are as follows:
- A check or money order made payable to the U.S. Department of State
- 16 and older - $30.00
- Under 16 - $15.00
- Cash, check, money order or credit card (with an additional $3.00 fee) in the amount of $35.00 made payable to the Owyhee County Court.
Passport Fees
All fees are non-refundable and the time frame for receiving your passport is up to eleven weeks.
Renewing Your Passport
You may be able to renew your passport online or by mail. Applications are also available at the Owyhee County Courthouse in Murphy or online from the U.S. Department of State.
You may qualify to use this form only if:
- The issue date of your last passport was less than 15 years ago;
- You were 16 or older when it was issued;
- Your name is the same or you can submit name-change documentation (marriage certificate or court order);
- You can submit this passport; and
- It is undamaged.
Children Under 16: How to Apply for your Child’s Passport?
- All children under age 16 must apply for a passport in person with two parents or guardians.
- You cannot renew your child’s passport.
- Passports for children under age 16 are only valid for 5 years
Under 14 Years: Effective July 2, 2001, Public Law 106-113 requires both parents’ or legal guardian(s)’ signatures on a passport application and be present at the time of application, or documentation of the absence of the second parent.
Age 14 through 17 years: For passport purposes, a child who is 14-17 years of age must appear in person to sign a passport application. If international departure is less than two weeks, or passport is needed for foreign visas, you must make an appointment at a Regional Passport Agency. Our nearest Regional Passport Agency is located in Seattle.
